citkar shines at the German Design Award 2019

Berlin October 17, 2018 – The Berlin mobility start-up citkar is the winner of the German Design Award 2019. The young company has received two awards for the e-cargo bike Loadster: The 46-member jury of design connoisseurs from business, teaching and science as well as the design industry awarded citkar with both, the single category Excellent Product Design for bicycles and e-bikes as well as the overall Universal Design award.

“We are particularly pleased about this award, because we have invested a lot of time in the mixture of an excellent commercial vehicle and an attractive appearance with the Loadster,” says citkar CEO Jonas Kremer. The Loadster, developed jointly with the Berlin company invivo industrial design, is the first e-cargo bike that could replace delivery vehicles in the future. It is fully covered and therefore weatherproof, has a payload of 100 kg and can be used as a bicycle on cycle paths without a license. “Ideal for food services, mobile care or craftsmen,” notes Kremer.

The similarity to the car is evident not only in terms of comfort, but above all in terms of driving style. “That convinces many entrepreneurs to get their employees to switch,” reports Kremer. The German Design Award saw it that way and wrote in the explanation: “The original design combines the drive of an e-bike with the iconic design of a car and the associated transport options, making it the perfect mobility alternative.”

In the Universal Design category, citkar was awarded the title ‘Winner’ and is therefore one of the absolute top products in this year’s competition. Moreover, citkar also received a ‘Special Mention’ in the Excellent Product Design category for bicycles and e-bikes, which recognises work whose design shows particularly successful aspects or solutions – an award that honors the commitment of companies and designers. “

The jury will announce additional winners at their official announcement on November 23. The award ceremony will take place in February 2019.

The Loadster is currently in a test phase with Zalando, among others, and can already be pre-ordered. The young team around Jonas Kremer is planning to deliver the first series models from spring 2019. The Loadster can currently be tested at the eMove360 ° in Munich until October 18th. From October 27th, test drives will take place every two weeks at the headquarters in Berlin.
